Contributing to the community

While exploring knowledgeGarden you might see a mistake or something that you can improve or extend. In fact, as a member of the knowledgeGarden community, you are invited to do this as a way of extending and improving our environment.

If you want you can start with simple improvements e.g. correct spelling or grammar mistakes or you could jump into expanding something based on your knowledge or experience.

If someone does not want you to extend their work, there will be a note to this effect at the top of the page. The person who creates the page can also click the LOCK button at the bottom of the page to prevent anyone else from editing it.

URinvited2

Sometimes people will invite contributions from others by using the word "URinvited2" (actually it is not a word ... I made it up) followed by things you might contribute, e.g (the links just come back to this page to explain the meaning of the "URinvited2" link:

Enter URinvited2 into the search box to find pages where your input will be welcome.

Everyone is encouraged to enter "URinvited2" into places where additional information or clarification is needed. If you show QUICKTAGS you can click on the STAR to enter the "URinvited2" tag.

How to Edit a Page

  • click the EDIT button at the bottom of the page (if the EDIT button is highlighted in yellow someone else may be editing the page)
  • make the changed you want then click SAVE

What happens if you make a mistake or someone disagrees?

If you make a change that you or someone else does not like, you can always roll the page back to the previous version. To do this:
  • click HISTORY at the bottom of the page
  • you can now see a list of all the different versions of the page, when they were created and who created them
  • click V next to a version to see that version of the page
  • click B next to the version you want to rollback to
  • look at the version then click ROLLBACK at the bottom of the page
  • click CONFIRM

How to create a new page

This is how you create a wiki page ... userpages are slightly different and you should create them by following the instructions on HowTo: Setup your knowledgeGarden account.

To create a normal wiki page (not a userpage where you would normally write about yourself) you would:
  • enter the name of the page in the QUICK EDIT A WIKI PAGE in the left hand menu then click EDIT
  • to find the page again use SEARCH in the left hand menu
  • to create a link to your page go to the Table of Contents,
    • click EDIT it
    • scroll to where you want the link then enter the name of your new page in double brackets e.g. ((My New Page))
    • click SAVE
